South Padre Island is located in the Gulf of Mexico; the island has everything around half mile wide, therefore you can appreciate its beaches almost from any point at the island.

1. Laguna Madre Natural Trail

An excellent way of knowing the natural habitat of the South Padre Island is make a ride by the Laguna Madre Natural Trail; it is a ride that goes from the South Padre Island Convention Center to the Laguna Madre swamp. Here you can observe different bird species. The Laguna Madre Natural Trail is open 24 hours a day and the access is free.

2. South Padre Island Birding and Nature Center

It has a five stories observation tower and an auditorium with educational movies, here you can learn about species of birds and butterflies, as well as other kind of animals. Admission to the center is of 5 dollars adults, 4 dollars students and 2 dollars children.

3. Dolphin Research and Sealife Nature Center

Here children can find native species such as crabs, starfish, in addition of dolphins. This place has the mission of educating about how to preserve and protect wildlife; moreover you can also buy a boat ride and see dolphins swimming in the beautiful waters of South Padre Island. The Dolphin Research & Sealife Nature Center is open every day from 10 am to 4 pm.

4. Port Isabel

Also for those that like expanding their knowledge on vacations we recommend visiting the museums in Port Isabel. The Port Isabel Lighthouse, the Port Isabel Historical Museum and the treasures of the Gulf Museum, here you can discover items and treasures collections from the region history.
